Visits to theatres and other venues have always been a feature of Theatre Engineering and Architecture conferences and it is intended to arrange some further visits in 2010. All visits are subject to the performance and rehearsal schedules of the venue, but attempts will be made to set up tours to places that are of particular interest.
Those planning to attend Conference are urged to email the Conference Director to confirm their interest in any venues on this preliminary list or to suggest the names and locations of any UK or European theatres or other performance spaces they would like to see. Day drips to the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany, or even to Scandinavia, are possible and our European colleagues will be able to assist with the arrangements.
Visits to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and to the three auditoria of the National Theatre on the South Bank are always popular. Depending what is playing in the West End, a backstage visit to a major musical is likely to be oversubscribed.
The most popular UK visits in 2006 were the Roundhouse in Camden, the Young Vic, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard in Stratford, the Unicorn Theatre for Young People and the Siobhan Davies Dance Centre. A tour of the Copenhagen Opera was arranged on the Friday after the Conference. Other visits included Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Sage in Newcastle, Menier Chocolate Factory, Hampstead Theatre, the historic Hackney Empire and the then newly-refurbished Novello Theatre in the Strand.

Please advise the Conference Director of any of these or any others you would like to visit. |
