Buildings for the arts must not only look amazing —
they must also function amazingly well.
Arts Team leads the way in creating innovative architecture to support and facilitate the arts. We design for a broad range of clients across the arts community, tackling both new buildings and the restoration of some of the country's finest historic theatres — breathing new life into important and much-loved parts of the nation's cultural heritage.
Our projects are location- and client-specific, defined less by a signature style than by a shared imaginative approach and design ethos. We believe that inspiration and creative solutions founded in specialist knowledge lead the way to successful arts buildings.
An informal professionalism underpins our working process. We are approachable and adaptable, but rigorous. Critical to us is the building of a strong rapport with clients.
By tailoring individual teams to projects, we are able to draw on specific expertise and respond to particular needs and sensibilities. We then consider projects holistically — looking at physical and philosophical accessibility, life-cycle environmental impact, the welfare of building users, economic operation and, more broadly, the wider contribution a project can make to community sustainability, diversity and opportunity.
Arts and cultural activities enrich the environment for all of us, stimulating community and civic pride. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the arts and this is the cornerstone of our design approach.

British Harlequin plc has an established global reputation as leaders in advanced technology flooring solutions for dance and the performing arts.
Harlequin’s range of floors, developed in close consultation with performers, meets a range of different needs from barefoot dance styles to the more aggressive and abrasive tap and flamenco and general purpose stage surfaces. Harlequin sprung sub floors used in conjunction with an appropriate dance surface provide ‘traction’ and ‘spring’ that allows dancers to perform with confidence and a degree of protection against the type of injuries associated with performing on hard, unyielding floors. Harlequin continues to work closely with medical research into the relationship between floor characteristics and long-term injuries.
Harlequin also plays a leading role in the advancement of standards through the work of ESTA and other organisations while fully complying with existing standards such as DIN 18032 Part ll. The company produces a guidance document for architects and theatre planners, presenting considerations relevant to specifying floors for the performing arts. Performer requirements are prioritised and the important differences between sports and performance floors explained. Harlequin also offers RIBA core curriculum CPD seminars, specifications can be accessed via NBS Plus with more information online at www.harlequinfloors.com/uk/architects-area.html.

Now in its 15th year, Maltbury Staging is a mature company providing a wide range of products and services to the performing arts market.
As our name suggests, the business has always been built around portable staging systems, first by hiring them, then by selling them. Our client list includes the Royal Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Concert Hall as well as hundreds of smaller arts venues, schools, civic halls, clubs and hire companies. We believe our popular Metrodeck staging system to be the most widely used and versatile of any such system.
While demountable staging is still central to our business, we now also sell seating, drapes, track and bespoke structures. In recent years we have completed major bespoke installations - both fixed and demountable - at Wexford Opera House, RAF Northolt, the Hoddinott Hall (for the BBC) and a selection of top independent schools. Our products can be found in places as diverse as Iceland and Dubai.
We have been delighted to work with some of the country’s finest architects, consultants and contractors. We offer good value, high quality, a professional approach and complete commitment right up until the show goes on and beyond.
